I'm Melanie, a proud Filipina. I was raised by my grandparents in the Philippines. Later on, when I turned 18, I migrated to the U.S. with the help of my OFW mom and American stepdad. ​With the transition came a natural curiosity about cultural differences and the realities of dating in the Western landscape. ​As I grew up, I witnessed how American singles became burned out by the swiping culture, the high cost of courtship, and long, ambiguous relationships. How many of them (especially men) turned to international dating as an alternative, while others mocked them as desperate. ​This experience (along with a Communication degree) eventually led me to my work as an affiliate writer for 1st Choice Dating, a matchmaking site that arranges singles' vacations and speed-dating events across Asia, Latin America, and Europe. ​I’m familiar with international dating. Through my parents’ relationship, experience in using the site’s services, and conversations with clients, I saw how love crossed borders.
